Simon has practiced in Criminal Law since 1988.  He is a Law Institute of Victoria Accredited Specialist in Criminal Law and has maintained accreditation since 2006.

Simon is a passionate advocate for social justice and has been involved in establishing Community Legal Services across Victoria (Youth Law and Surf Coast Community Legal Service).  He is a founding member of the Mirabel Foundation – a charity which assists children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental addiction.

With more than 30 years experience, Simon is a highly skilled advocate who has represented clients charged with offences ranging from shop-theft to murder.  He has appeared in some of Victoria’s most complex and high-profile cases.

Simon regularly appears in the Children’s’ Court, Koori Court, Magistrates’ Court, County Court, and the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Mel Cox

Mel is a passionate and empathetic lawyer who is driven to achieve the best possible outcome for her clients.  She is a confident and articulate communicator who quickly builds rapport.

Mel is a Law Institute of Victoria Accredited Specialist in Criminal Law, and lectures at Deakin University. She is an experienced lawyer who guides her clients through the complexity of the legal system, whether they be a first-time offender seeking a Diversion or having been committed to stand trial in the County or Supreme Courts of Victoria.  She appears in Magistrates Court, Koori Court, Children’s Court and County Court.

With a background in Finance and Business Management, Mel utilises her negotiation skills to deliver results.  She goes above and beyond for her clients.

Mel has strong professional relationships with highly skilled barristers across all jurisdictions.  Mel excels in working collaboratively in complex proceedings such as trials in the County Court and Supreme Court of Victoria.

Mel has a Bachelor of Laws graduating with Honours from Deakin University and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law.

Stephanie Mawby

Stephanie is an Accredited Specialist in Criminal Law with the Law Institute of Victoria. With extensive experience, she has practiced exclusively in Criminal Law since 2014.

Stephanie regularly appears as a solicitor-advocate in court, handling a wide range of criminal cases across all jurisdictions, including the Magistrates’, County, Supreme, and Children’s Courts of Victoria. She has represented clients charged with offences such as commercial drug trafficking and cultivation, fraud, firearm offences, culpable driving, homicide, assault, and serious sex crimes.

Dedicated to delivering the highest standard of legal representation, Stephanie is a skilled advocate who works diligently to secure the best possible outcomes for her clients.

Stephanie holds a double degree in Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Criminology from Deakin University, Geelong. After completing her degrees, she earned a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the Leo Cussen Centre for Law.

Since 2022, Stephanie has worked as a Casual Academic at Deakin University.

Tom Edwards

In 2024, Tom was recognised as an Accredited Specialist in Criminal Law by the Law Institute of Victoria. He practices exclusively in criminal law, handling complex indictable cases such as Aggravated Home Invasions, Commercial Drug Trafficking, and Homicide. Tom has played a key role in preparing for numerous high-profile trials, including those involving Firearm Crime, Sex Crime and Murder.

Since being admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria, Tom has exclusively practiced criminal law. He is known for his exceptional diligence and commitment to his clients.

Tom holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Criminology with Distinction from Deakin University. During his studies, he had the opportunity to explore Criminal Procedure in Washington DC and North Carolina, USA. He also holds a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the Leo Cussen Centre for Law.

Matilda Jones

Matilda joined the team at Geelong Lawyers in 2021 and was admitted to legal practice in early 2022.

Prior to this, Matilda gained invaluable legal experience through her roles at the Barwon Community Legal Service and the Prison Legal Education and Assistance Project (PLEA Project). As Manager of the PLEA Project, she worked directly with vulnerable prisoners across Victorian prisons, providing critical education and support to help them navigate the justice system. Matilda is deeply committed to social justice, fairness, and empowering her clients by ensuring they understand their rights.

As an experienced lawyer, Matilda regularly appears in the Magistrates’ Court, Children’s Court, and County Court. She represents both children and adults in cases involving summary and serious indictable offences, including family violence, complex dishonesty, and theft. Matilda is also well-versed in matters related to the Family Violence Intervention Orders and Personal Safety Intervention Orders.

Matilda is known for her strong sense of empathy and fairness, working tirelessly to advocate for her clients and provide them with a voice during what can often be a challenging and stressful time for both them and their families.
